Comedian Vir Das, won the International Emmy for Comedy for his Netflix special titled ‘Vir Das: Landing’. In a first, the star shared his big win with the British comedy series ‘Derry Girls – Season 3′ which Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Louisa Harland, Nicola Coughlan, Jamie-Lee O’Donnell and Dylan Llewellyn in lead roles.
This marked Vir’s second International Emmy nomination and first win.His standup special ‘Vir Das: For India’ received a 2021 International Emmy Nomination for ‘Best Comedy’.

This year, Das and Derry Girls contended against France’s ‘Le Flambeau’ and Argentina’s ‘El Encargado’ to claim victory.
The award marks a milestone in the comedian who reminisced his struggle ahead of the award show. In an Instagram post, the star revealed that he once even contemplated taking his life by suicide following the backlash for his satire poem at his US show.

“On the night I was called a terrorist, I was nominated for an Emmy Award,” he said.

Recalling the legal ordeal while at the hotel called the Beekman, Das revealed that he had suicidal thoughts and thought of jumping from his hotel room. “Every floor was hollow on the inside and it overlooked the lobby. I just remember just standng on my floor, thinking, ‘I f***ed it up, they’re never going to let me… I should jump’.”
Das concluded his video by saying, “I just want you know that love is playing right underneath you. You just can’t hear it in the darkness. You have got to hang out till sunlight.”

For the big night, Vir wore a traditional black bandhgala suit.
The International Emmy Awards ceremony is being held in New York City. This year’s nominations featured a various group of 56 candidates from 20 countries across 14 categories.
