Latest NorthEast India News | Assam: Hindu man donates land for mosque road, sets example of communal amity

A Hindu man in Assam’s Bongaigaon district has set an example of communal amity by donating a portion of his land for constructing a road to the local mosque.

Ratikanta Choudhury, a resident of Dolaigaon village has got praises from everyone for having a big heart and donating his land for the construction of a road to the local mosque. Choudhury, without any hesitation, donated his land to the mosque society so that a proper road could be built to the mosque.

“We used to do farming on that plot of land. Soon people started gathering there and a mosque was also set up. I thought people will keep coming there. So I thought that it is best to build a connecting road so that people can come easily and offer prayers. I have not taken any money for it. I have donated it,” said Choudhury.

The grateful Muslim community of Dolaigaon, meanwhile, has named the locality as Prabhavati Nagar after Choudhury’s later mother. Local Muslims are saying that Choudhury’s selfless help to the local Muslim community will forever be an example of communal harmony in the area.

“It is good that we have such examples in Assam. And if we can spread these examples, then communal powers from outside will not be able to affect our people. We thank him and his family for this. His good name will always remain in this village and we will always strive to upkeep it,” said a local Muslim youth.
