Nasa and Intuitive Machines is all set to launch its first lunar lander, Nova-C, on a mission to the Moon’s surface.

The Nova-C lander, part of NASA’s Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) program aims to deliver scientific and technological payloads that will pave the way for future human missions and a sustainable human presence on the lunar surface.

If all goes according to plan, the Nova-C lander is expected to touch down on the Moon on Thursday, February 22.

When will SpaceX Nasa launch Nova-C lunar lander?

The highly anticipated launch is scheduled for 12:57 a.m. EST or 11:27 am IST on Wednesday, February 14, 2024.

The mission will liftoff aboard SpaceX’s Falcon-9 rocket lifted off from Launch Complex 39A at Nasa’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

The IM-1 mission carries a suite of Nasa instruments designed to study plume-surface interactions, space weather and lunar surface interactions, and radio astronomy.

Additionally, it will test precision landing technologies and deploy a communication and navigation node to support future autonomous navigation technologies.

This mission marks the first time a private company has attempted a soft landing on the Moon, which could open a new era of lunar exploration and commercialisation.

The Nova-C lander, named Odysseus, is equipped with autonomous landing and hazard detection technology and can carry up to 100 kg of payload to the lunar surface.

Intuitive Machines and SpaceX are making final preparations to ensure a successful mission.
