There was a massive security breach in the India vs Australia World Cup final at the Narendra Modi Stadium as a pitch intruder interrupted the match. The game was stopped for a brief while before the play resumed as the intruder was taken away by the security. The intruder was a Palestinian supporter and wore ‘Free Palestine’ T-Shirt. He came close to Virat Kohli and hugged him before being taken away.
Heavy security was deployed at the Narendra Modi Stadium but this breach will raise several questions on the security arrangements.
Meanwhile, India find themselves in a spot of bother after Australia jolted them with three quick wickets. India got off to a good start but Australia bounced back with three quick wickets, leaving them reeling at 97-3 in 15 overs. Virat Kohli and KL Rahul are at the crease and the pair will have to stitch a big partnership. India lack batting depth, with no Hardik Pandya in the team. With only Suryakumar Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja to follow, the partnership between Virat Kohli and KL Rahul will be the key for India. India are searching for their third World Cup title. The Men in Blue have been on fire in the World Cup, reaching the final undefeated.
Rohit Sharma once again looked set for a big score and got India off to a flier but was out for 47. Rohit has as many as five scores of 40+ in the World Cup. His selfless cricket has been appreciated by the fans but the captain will be disappointed that he failed to kick on and play a big knock in the World Cup final.
